Tageswanderung auf dem Schneifel-Pfad
Prüm
Path of peace - hiking in the Schneifel
War and peace lay close together in the Schneifel. They left their mark and at the same time shaped the strength and grace of the Eifel region. Crossing borders - both internal and external - and taking time for yourself is the motto of the Schneifelpfad leisure trail (Kronenburg - Birresborn, 73 km). This is also possible on a day hike that starts from Prüm. At the end of the tour, hikers can return to the starting point from their destination of Schönecken by public transport. The tour starts at the Kalvarienberg in Prüm. (An alternative parking lot is at the Konvikt, Kalvarienbergstr. 1, Prüm. From there it is about a 10-minute walk to the start of the tour on the Kalvarienberg. On the way back, however, it is quicker to get back to the car).
Hikers pass two places of leisure on the day tour. They have time to immerse themselves in the history of the places, take in the landscape around them and listen to the stories. How, shortly after the end of the Second World War, a mine shaft exploded on the Kalvarienberg and created a crater as only volcanic eruptions once could. Or the description of the Nims, which has meandered through the landscape for thousands of years and has seen many generations of people. It tells of the time when the castle "Clara Costa" was built - things were not always peaceful.
Tip: The Hahnplatz square in the heart of the abbey town is an island of tranquillity in its own right. After the hiking tour, it is worth visiting the famous St. Salvator Basilica and then taking a short break in one of the cafés or restaurants around Hahnplatz.
