Christmas atmosphere in Advent

For 48 years now, the Advent blowing has been one of the highlights of the Christmas season in the abbey town of Prüm. This atmospheric concert, which always takes place on the first Saturday of Advent at 8 p.m. on Hahnplatz in front of the basilica, has been an integral part of Prüm traditions for many years. The Advent blowing was initiated more than four decades ago by the late Prüm sisters Marlies and Berta Hansen, based on the traditional Salzburg tower blowing. From the tower of the basilica, from the balconies and from the windows of the houses around Hahnplatz, the wind players of the Musikverein 1834 e.V. Prüm play pre-Christmas tunes from Germany, the Alpine region and our neighboring countries. The impressive charisma of the St. Salvator Basilica creates a unique atmosphere on the Christmas-decorated Hahnplatz. The people on the square become quiet and contemplative when the Christmas sounds ring out - a wonderful start to the Advent season. The musical direction is in the proven hands of Thomas Rippinger, conductor of the Prüm Music Association. Every year, the Advent blowing attracts numerous visitors to the Prüm city center, which is atmospherically lit with stars.
